LC State’s 30-Win Season Ends in Round of 16

Sioux City, Iowa – (Release from Lewis-Clark State College Athletics) The 2022-23 season came to an end on Monday for No. 10 LC State Women’s Basketball in the NAIA’s Round of 16. The Warriors clashed with No. 7 Clarke (Iowa) and fell by a final of 87-75. Senior Sara Muehlhausen had her best game of the season with a team-leading 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

LC State ended the season with a record of 30-4, the fourth-most wins in program history.

Clarke took an early lead to gain control in the first half. LC had no answer for the Pride’s Tina Ubl’s 28 points.

Muehlausen hit the first basket of the contest and Callie Stevens drained a 3 to give LC a 5-2 edge a minute in. Clarke pulled ahead 9-7 at 6:13 and surged to lead 14-7 by 4:23. Adyson Clabby and Ellie Sander tallied back-to-back 3s to cut the difference to 14-13, but the Pride rallied again to take a 25-15 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Lindsey Wilson scored the first basket of the second quarter before Clarke made it a 30-17 difference after two minutes. Muehlhausen and Maddie Holm brought LC within 10, 30-23, but the Pride surged on to grow the Warriors’ deficit to 40-25 with 1:55 to play in the half. Free throws by Hannah Broyles made it a 42-30 game at the break.

A 3 by Clabby and buckets by freshmen Sitara Byrd and Wilson got the offense going for the Warriors, but Clarke maintained control with a 71-49 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

Clarke ended the LC State season by a final of 87-75.

Muehlhausen tallied 17 points, seven board and four blocks. She ends her Warrior career ranked third all-time in blocks with 164. Her 72 this season rank second all-time.

Holm and Sander each scored 10 points and Holm grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior Broyles finished her season with 99 3-pointers made, the second-most in a single season. She had four steals in the contest, and fellow senior Clabby added eight points.
