LCSC Industrial Maintenance & Millwright Technology Program Receives USDA Grant Funding

October 24, 2024

(Lewiston, ID) Lewis-Clark State College’s Industrial Maintenance & Millwright Technology program was awarded over $17,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funding, which must be used by July 2025, will go toward purchasing two gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding machines.

The program had to file a formal grant application with the USDA before receiving notice of the award in July 2024. Two welders have already been purchased and are scheduled to arrive next month.

The welders will allow students to learn a form of welding that is applicable to diverse metals such as aluminum or stainless steel, which other processes can’t complete. Students will be able to use these skills later as they embark on careers such as industrial machinery mechanics, maintenance/machinery workers, maintenance millwright, and more.

The Industrial Maintenance & Millwright Technology program offers both an associate degree and a certificate. The program is housed in the Technical & Industrial Division which also houses Auto Mechanics Technology, CNC Machining, Collision Repair Technology, Computer Information Technology & Security, Diesel Technology, Engineering Technology, Fire Service Technology, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, & Refrigeration, Industrial Electronics Technology, and Welding Technology.
