Lewiston Fire Department Responds to Friday Afternoon Housefire

LEWISTON – On Friday, November 3, at 2:55 p.m., Lewiston Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1319 Birch Ave.

First-arriving crews found smoke coming from the front door of the residence. The property owner was outside and advised no one else was inside except his cat. Crews made entry into the building and found the smoke in the house from floor to ceiling. There was no active fire, and it appeared the fire had run out of oxygen before fire crews had arrived.

Crews remained on the scene for an additional 60 minutes to check for extension and to assist the homeowner.

Fire investigators on the scene are working to determine the cause of the fire. The department responded with two (2) engines, two (2) ambulances, two (2) chief officers, and two (2) investigators.

The estimated damage to the property was $100,000. No firefighter or civilian injuries occurred, however, the homeowner’s cat died in the residence.
