LEWISTON – The Lewiston Police Department continued its investigation into an accident that occurred on May 31, 2024 and was able to identify and locate the hit-and-run driver. The driver identified as Jeremy Hauck, was issued two misdemeanor citations for striking fixtures and one misdemeanor citation for failing to notify police of the accident. The case has been closed.

The original LPD press release indicated that on May 31, 2024, at 1:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to a property damage accident in the area of 10th Street and Thain Road. The driver had left the scene after striking and destroying the white box which stores all the wiring for the lights and intersection.

The severe damage knocked out the power to the lights for this intersection, Lewiston’s traffic department was called and placed stop signs making this a four-way intersection until the repairs could be done. The City announced on Friday evening the power had been restored and the intersection was fully functional.

Officers located the pickup involved, unoccupied at a different location, but the driver had not been located. The pickup was impounded until the driver could be identified and charged.
The Lewiston police department asks that drivers use caution and obey the stop signs in place.

At the time of the initial release, LPD suspected alcohol to have been a factor.
