Lewiston Rotary Club Celebrates International Peace Day, September 21, With New Park Upgrades

LEWISTON – This Wednesday, September 21, Rotarians and their communities around the world will celebrate International Peace Day. The Lewiston Rotary Club is celebrating this day by announcing the installation of new picnic tables and a shelter at the Peace Park, formerly Demolay Park, and by focusing on peace at the Club’s meeting that day.

“Promoting peace is a cornerstone of the Rotary Mission”, said Barbara Craigie, President of the Lewiston Rotary Club. “With the adoption of the park itself and each new upgrade, the Lewiston Rotary Club is delivering on a vision of creating a lasting legacy and of emphasizing peace in our community.”

International Peace Day was established by the United Nations in 1981 and is celebrated around the world. Rotarians use this day to focus on peace and assess their own club’s efforts in offering peace-building activities. Rotarians around the world foster peace by carrying out service projects, offering peace fellowships and scholarships, and taking action to address the underlying causes of conflicts within communities.

The Lewiston Club continues to raise funds and accept donations for more improvements to the Peace Park. Those interested in contributing to the park’s development can message the Lewiston Rotary Club on Facebook.

The Lewiston Rotary Club is celebrating its 100-year anniversary, culminating with a gala event in October 2022. A service organization that is open to everyone, the Lewiston Rotary Club’s philanthropic efforts include providing scholarships for LCSC students, sponsoring the Lewiston Rotary Bike Rodeo, and funding support for the Snake River Community Clinic, the Idaho Foodbank and the Salvation Army among others.

The Lewiston Rotary Club meets weekly on Wednesdays at noon for lunch at the Hells Canyon Grand Hotel, located at 621 21st St, Lewiston. To learn more go to https://www.lewistonrotary.org.
