SPOKANE, Wash. – Local products shined on Thursday at the Whitworth Twilight. Lewis-Clark State Track and Field, led by standout performances from Lewiston, Orofino and Asotin natives, tallied seven national standards, four school records and more than 25 personal bests.
“Just another day at the track,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “More season bests, personal bests, school records, conference qualifiers and national qualifiers. I can’t say enough about how well we are doing right now. Hopefully we can stay healthy and see how things progress. Great day for Madigan (Kelly) and Jennah (Carpenter) as well as three relays that hit national standards. Outstanding.”
THE WOMEN
The Warrior women hit an automatic standard and set the school record in the 4x100m relay. The team of Madigan Kelly, Emily Collins, Anika Grogan and Karissa Lindner clocked a time of 47.31. Kelly, Grogan and Collins teamed up with Sydnie Zywina for a B standard in the 4x400m with a time of 3:56.44 which ranks eighth in the NAIA.
Kelly made more LC State history in the 100m hurdles with a run of 13.87. The A-standard time is the fastest in program history and fifth-best in the NAIA this season. Kelly placed first and Jennah Carpenter was fourth (15.13).
Carpenter had a big day in field events with a pair of national standards. The three-time All-American in the high jump cleared the A standard and is tied for fifth in the NAIA with a mark of 1.68m. She went on to set the LC State record and hit a B standard in the long jump with a distance of 5.68m which ranks eighth in the NAIA. Lindner was sixth in the long jump with a PR of 4.85m.
Zywina was also in action in the triple jump where she cleared an A standard at 11.96m to place second. Gianna Anderson was eighth with a personal-best mark of 31.99m in the javelin.
Collins continued her day in the 400m with a personal-best race. She won the event with a time of 57.76 which ranks fourth in Warrior history. Lindner went on to run the second fastest 200m in program history and place third in the event with a time of 25.58.
Freshman Haylee Appleford put herself in the record book in the discus with a mark of 40.04m. The mark ranks fourth in program history and earned the Asotin native third place. She also hit a PR in the hammer with a mark of 36.80m to place 10th. Grace Osborne continued her strong season with personal bests in the discus (37.52m) where she placed sixth and hammer throw (41.64m) where she was also sixth. She finished seventh in the shot put (10.29m).
Emberlynn Mack was sixth in the pole vault (2.78m).
Senior Abigail Peightal placed third in the 3,000m steeplechase (12:36.75). Grace Tiegs ran a PR time of 4:41.82 in the 1,500m to lead a group of Warriors. Geraldin Correa was fourth (4:47.03), Kristen Thomas placed 22nd (5:16.69) and Grace McCormick was 24th (5:31.94). Aubree Williams was seventh in the 800m (2:19.82), Tiegs was ninth (2:22.53) and McCormick was 17th (2:42.82).
Abigail Gorton ran a PR of 40:58.24 to finish second in the 10,000m. Madison Howe was ninth in the 5,000m (21.49.07) and HaileyAnn Johnson was 10th (22:29.52).
THE MEN
The men’s 4x800m relay team of Kobe Wessels, Conner May, Carter Gordon and Griffen Parsells clinched their return to nationals with the best time in the NAIA this season. The group ran a time of 7:39.49 for an A standard.
Parsells led the Warriors in the 800m with a win on a time of 1:53.82. Wessels was second with a PR of 1:53.85, May placed sixth (1:55.42) and Cooper Carlson was seventh with a personal-best time of 1:56.31. Clay Shumaker finished 15th (2:00.77) and Jacob Adams was 23rd (2:07.53).
Gordon went on to lead the LC men with a third-place finish in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 4:04.14. Connor Alexander was just behind him in fourth (4:04.64) and Brycen Brown was fifth (4:04.92). Tristin O’Brien placed 11th (4:12.78) and Brycen Kempton was 17th (4:18.69).
Jedidiah Barnaby remained the fastest Warrior in school history with a time of 10.75 in the 100m dash. He placed second with Jordan Castillo in sixth with the third-best time ever by a Warrior (10.99). Preston Cooper finished seventh with the No. 4 time in LC State history (11.01). Barnaby led the group in the 200m with the No. 3 time in Warrior history (21.91). He won the race with Cooper in third with the fourth-best LC State time (22.19). Castillo finished fourth (22.41) and James Bogdanowicz placed 11th with a PR of 23.49.
Bogdanowicz had a career day in the pole vault with a height of 4.33m to place seventh. Trenton Johnson won the triple jump with a mark of 14.19m. Sam Weller was in action in multiple throwing events. He placed sixth in the shot put (13.95m), eighth in his first javelin attempt (37.89m) and seventh in the hammer (39.14m). Tanner Beltz-Childs threw a PR of 40.42m to place fifth in the hammer throw.
Senior Ike Hopper ran a time of 15.24 to place second in the 110m hurdles. Alexander Fry led LC in the 5,000m with a PR time of 15:38.59 to finish 11th. Keith Uitdewilligen was 13th (15:42.29) and Luke Sellmann ran a career-best time of 17:00.24 to place 19th.
Hopper, Brown, Johnson and Gordon combined to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:24.27.
