LPD Warns Residents of Door to Door Sales Scams

June 28, 2024

(Lewiston, ID) The Lewiston Police Department (LPD) wants to inform you about the laws and safety concerns regarding door-to-door salespersons.

The Lewiston Police Department (LPD) wants to inform you about the laws and safety concerns regarding door-to-door salespersons. If a salesperson comes to your door offering a service, you should ask to see their City of Lewiston business license badge. If they do not have one, LPD recommends calling their non-emergency number (208-746-0171) to report them, as it is illegal for them to solicit without it, and they may not have good intentions. Please do not allow the person into your home without verifying their credentials.

Here’s what the process looks like:

The business is required to have a business license, and any employees performing solicitation for the business must have a background study license. Once the individual passes the background check, they are issued a badge, which they are required to wear at all times while conducting door-to-door sales. The badge will be laminated, display their picture, the official City of Lewiston logo, and their unique background study license number with the date issued and expiration date. The City will not issue a temporary license.
