Future public proceedings in State v. Kohberger will be livestreamed using court equipment as an alternative to the continued presence of outside cameras in the courtroom, a new order of the court states. That order is available to read on the Cases of Interest page.
The order, issued Friday, follows an earlier motion in August to remove cameras from the courtroom.
Friday‘s order states members of the media and public will not be allowed to record their own video, audio or take photographs of future hearings. However, during future public hearings a court-provided livestream will be available through Judge John Judge’s YouTube channel.
“This will help to alleviate the concerns raised by both the defense and the State, but at the same time will ensure the public still has access to see the proceedings for themselves if they cannot attend hearings in-person,” the order states.
Idaho Court Administrative Rule 45 addresses cameras in the courtrooms of Idaho’s state judicial system. Whether to allow a camera is left to the discretion of the presiding judge in the case. Decisions on camera access are not subject to appeal under the rule.
