Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office Cracks Down on Distracted Driving

When a driver chooses to drive distracted it can result in tragic consequences, especially for more vulnerable road users such as bicyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. Nez Perce County Sheriff s Office announces a robust enforcement campaign to crack down on this dangerous behavior. With the goal of safeguarding motorists and pedestrians alike, law enforcement officers will be intensifying efforts to enforce distracted driving laws throughout the State.

Distracted driving, which includes activities such as texting, talking on the phone poses a significant threat to road safety. Starting tomorrow April 3rd, and running until April 10th the Sheriffs Office will increase patrols with targeted operations to detect and deter distracted drivers. Deputies will be focusing on educating the public about the risks associated with distracted driving while also enforcing penalties for violators

Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office understands driver distraction are not specific to cell phone use. Anything that takes eyes off the road, hands off the steering wheel or mind off driving is considered a distraction. To support the enforcement efforts we encourage community members to report instances of distracted driving and to spread awareness about the importance of staying attentive while driving.
