Nicholas Umphenour and Skylar Meade Indicted in Nez Perce County for Murder of James Mauney

(Lewiston, ID) On June 10, 2024, a Grand Jury in Nez Perce County heard evidence presented by Prosecutors throughout the day, eventually leading to the indictment of Nicholas Umphenour (29 yoa) and Skylar Meade (32 yoa) for the murder of James Mauney (83 yoa). Both Meade and Umphenour were indicted for first-degree murder. They were served the indictments today and appeared in Ada County, where they are being held for their involvement in a prison break and exchange of gunfire with Idaho Department of Corrections Officers on March 20th, 2024.

“These indictments are the first step in the process of seeking justice for James Mauney. We have a long way to go to reach the conclusion we want and will continue to work diligently with law enforcement agencies throughout the State to ensure we have the strongest case possible to present at trial,” said Prosecutor Justin Coleman.

In Court today, both defendants were held on the charges with no bond and will be returned to Nez Perce County District Court to answer for the murder at a later date. Further information surrounding the case has been sealed by the Court at this time.
