No. 10 LC State Women Roll Past Corban in CCC Quarterfinal

Alisha Alexander, Sports Information Director | LCSC

LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 10 LC State Women’s Basketball had contributions from everyone on the bench on Wednesday when it rolled past Corban by a final of 91-48 in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank. The second-seeded LC Warriors eliminated the seventh-seeded Corban Warriors and will host the No. 3 seed Southern Oregon on Saturday.

Maddie Holm put together a strong game with 20 points on a 7-for-12 night from the floor. She was 4-for-4 from 3-point range, and Hannah Broyles added four 3s as part of her 17 points. LC shot .500 from the floor and from 3-point range.

“I thought we were really efficient offensively tonight,” Head Coach Brian Orr said. “Except for the third quarter, we really shot the ball well. Our defense was effective all game. Even though Corban came out making 3s and finished the same way, in between we were able to make them take some tough, contested shots. It was another great team effort and a fun game to start the tournament.”

LC State got off to a hot start with an 8-0 run. Callie Stevens and Sara Muehlhausen each scored four, and back-to-back jumpers by Holm and Ellie Sander made it a 12-3 lead by 5:21.

Stevens and Holm hit consecutive 3 pointers two minutes later, and a triple by Holm was followed by one from Broyles and a bucket by Sitara Byrd to give LC a 26-9 advantage with 1:46 to play in the quarter. Broyles scored once more to close out the first 10 minutes with LC in front 28-14.

Baskets by Sander and Lindsey Wilson got the offense going in the second frame. Wilson added another layup to spark an 18-point run to put the LC Warriors up 50-16 at the 3:22 mark. Free throws by Holm closed out the half with LC leading 52-20.

Triples by Holm and Broyles kept the momentum going in the third quarter, and a jumper by Sander sparked a seven-point run with the other five points scored by Adyson Clabby. The rally had the LC State lead at 69-35 at the end of the third.

A 3 by Payton Hymas opened a run of 14 straight LC State Warrior points to push the margin to 85-38 with 3:36 to play. Buckets by the freshmen trio of Byrd, Wilson and Hymas capped the scoring with LC in front 91-48.

Holm led all scorers with 20 points and Broyles added 17. The pair went a combined 12-for-22 from the field and 8-for-11 from 3-point range. Sander scored 12 points and Wilson added 10.

Muehlhausen led the defense with eight rebounds and Holm grabbed six. Broyles dished out four assists and had three steals.

LC State shot .500 (33-for-66) from the field and the same mark from 3-point range (11-for-22). The Warriors were 14-of-15 from the free throw line.

Maddie Godwin led Corban with 13 points and Tori Younker grabbed seven rebounds.
