No. 3 C of I Takes CCC Men’s Basketball Battle Against LC State

Alisha Alexander | Assistant Athletic Director-Sports Information

LEWISTON – No. 3 College of Idaho showed why it is one of the nation’s top teams on Friday with a 104-63 win over LC State. The Warriors could not contain C of I’s shooting as the Yotes finished the contest with a 67.2% mark from the field. LC State had 38 points off the bench, led by 15 from Quentin Raynor.

“Credit to C of I,” Head Coach Austin Johnson said. “We did not handle their physicality well at all and the game got away from us early. All year our guys have responded well in adversity and I’m excited to see how we respond tomorrow against a good and very well-rested EOU team.”

The loss moves LC State to 15-6 overall and 13-2 in Cascade Conference play.

The Yotes raced out to a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes of the contest before a jumper by Anthony Peoples Jr. cut the difference to 10 two minutes later. C of I surged ahead 36-13 by 8:01 and ended the first half in front 50-26.

Davian Brown scored the first three LC State baskets of the second half, but the Yotes continued their momentum. Raynor hit back-to-back 3s at the 10-minute mark to make it a 75-53.

Freshman Jayceon Smith entered the contest and made an impact with a career-best six points in the final eight minutes. Erick Chaney hit a 3 and Peoples Jr. drained a jumper to close out the contest.

Raynor led LC State with 15 points on a 5-for-8 night from behind the 3-point line. Smith went 3-for-4 from the field with four rebounds. Alton Hamilton led the defense with five boards and Brown had four steals.

Jake O’Neil led C of I with 17 points and Paul Wilson scored 16. Drew Wyman grabbed eight rebounds and Caden Handran dished out nine assists.

The Warriors host Eastern Oregon on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the P1FCU Activity Center.
