No. 8 St. Thomas Takes Friday Contest Against No. 2 Warriors

Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – A potent St. Thomas (Fla.) offense was too much for Warrior pitching to handle on Friday when the eighth-ranked Bobcats defeated No. 2 LC State 11-2. STU rattled off 13 hits and held the Warriors to just four.

LC State is now 1-1 on the season. Nick Seamons homered for the second straight game.

“We were not particularly sharp in any facet of the game today,” Head Coach Jake Taylor said. “Credit to St. Thomas as they came to compete. We will need to regroup and be ready to go tomorrow as we have two more excellent opponents.”

St. Thomas put up two runs in the first three innings to take an early lead before a rain delay halted play for nearly four hours. The Bobcats wasted no time when play resumed with a three-run shot to grow the margin to 5-0. St. Thomas held LC State off the board for seven innings as it grew the lead to 7-0.

The Warriors went through the bullpen after the game resumed. Jace Hanson struck out a pair in the fifth, and Jantzen Lucas fanned two in the seventh.

Seamons gave the LC State offense some life in the eighth with his second home run of the season. Isaac Haws led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch to bring Seamons to the plate. The junior sent the ball over the wall in left to cut into the deficit to bring the score to 7-2.

The Bobcats responded with four runs in the eighth before closing out the game 11-2.

Pu’ukani De Sa led the Warriors with two hits and Seamons drove in both LC State runs.

Starter Drake George took the loss. Hanson and Lucas each struck out three betters in their outings.
