KIRKLAND, Wash.– A talented Northwest University team snapped the LC State Volleyball winning streak on Saturday in a three-set loss (25-17, 25-23, 25-18).
The loss drops the Warriors to 6-8 in Cascade Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Juliauna Forgach Aguilar tallied the first kill of the night for LC State, but the Eagles jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the opening frame. A block by Missy Mortensen and Anna Merrill kept the score within two, 6-4, and back-to-back kills by Hallie Seaman and Karissa Lindner made it 9-8. The pair put up a block and Gianna Anderson added a kill as the set went on and swings by Lindner and Merrill had the deficit at 18-12. Forgach Aguilar snapped a Northwest run with a kill on an assist from Abbey Neff and Esther Kailiponi followed with an ace at 20-14. The Eagles took the first set 25-17.
Forgach Aguilar again registered the first Warrior kill in the next set and another ace by Kailiponi had LC trailing 4-3. Anderson and Lindner kept the difference at one with kills to make it an 8-7 contest. Similar to the start of the set, a kill by Forgach Aguilar and an ace by Kailiponi kept the Warriors in the mix with a 14-11 deficit. Anderson and Merrill went back-to-back with kills and an ace by Anderson made it three straight LC points to pull within one at 19-18. Forgach Aguilar added a pair of kills and Mortensen tallied one to tie things up 23-23, but Northwest took the set 25-23.
Kills by Forgach Aguilar and an ace by Kailiponi had the Warriors down 5-4 early in the third frame. A kill by Seaman sparked a run of six that was aided by a block by Mortensen and Anderson and kill by Anderson to put LC in front 10-8, but the Eagles bounced back to regain a 13-10 lead.
Lindner slammed down a kill and Anderson dealt an ace to cut the margin to 15-14, and two kills by Merrill kept the set close at 18-16. Northwest closed out the match 25-18.
Forgach Aguilar led the Warriors with 10 kills in the match at a clip of .308 and Neff dished out 14 assists. Kailiponi dealt four service aces and Anderson tallied two. Libero Kenzie Dean collected nine digs to move her career total to 1,553, five shy of the fourth-most all-time at LC State.
