LEWISTON, Idaho — The Lewis-Clark State College Nursing & Health Sciences Division recently received $65,000 in grant funding from the Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation (LCVH). The funding will go toward updating equipment in the division’s clinical resource center/skills lab.
Equipment being updated includes an infant radiant warmer, wound care education/assessment pieces, syringe pumps, workstations, and more. It is estimated that more than 300 students will be positively impacted by these updates in the next year alone. By aligning its equipment with industry standards, the Nursing & Health Sciences Division can continue providing relevant and advanced healthcare education to its students.
“To help meet the healthcare needs of our region and our state, LC State is expanding educational capacity and program offerings,” said Associate Dean for the School of Professional Studies Krista Harwick. “Support from the Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation allows us to enhance lab practice experiences and to provide students the opportunity to gain experience on equipment they will utilize in the healthcare setting, ensuring they are competent, safe, and well prepared to enter practice.”
To receive funding, the division completed a grant application where the division expressed its plan for the funding, intended audience, short-term and long-term goals, measurement and evaluation tactics, the necessity of the funding, and more. The division will begin implementing usage of the grant once it is received. LC State Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Fred Chilson, LC State Foundation Board President Chris Moore, and various LC State representatives attended the grant award ceremony on December 12.
“We could not reach our successful outcomes without the support of our many clinical partners and financial contributors,” Harwick said. “Thank you, Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation, for your generous support of our healthcare education programs. Your investment in providing students access to necessary practice equipment will help us continue graduating healthcare professionals with the skills to meet the needs of the clients they serve, the ability to become engaged citizens, advocates, and lifelong learners, and the competencies to be effective leaders.”
