Palouse Plein Air Award-Winning Artworks Announced

MOSCOW — The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission announced the award-winning artists and artworks from the 2022 Palouse Plein Air exhibition on Wednesday, September 21.

Artists from across the region created paintings onsite at locations throughout Latah, Nez Perce, Whitman, and Benewah counties during a September 5 – 13 painting period. The exhibition juror, Melanie Thompson of Richland, WA, reviewed 82 artworks submitted by 34 individual artists prior to the exhibition opening. The following artists and artworks received awards:

1st Place: Michael J. Lewis, West Whitman Hay AQI 156
2nd Place: Sydney Speck, Sonia’s Taco Truck
3rd Place: Maggie Keefe, Hay bales
Best Palouse: Nicole Monosky, For Kay
Best Downtown: Tara Oar, Hidden City
Best Historical: Elizabeth Harwood, Elephant Tree
Best Watercolor: Ashleigh Streiff, Light through the Brambles
Student Award: Megan Wood, Midnight Stroll
Sam Chadwick, Smoke Rings and Tree Rings
Honorable Mention: John Larkin, Blue Spruce
Tim Cawley, Half Mast Flag
City Purchase: Amalia Fisch, Tekoa Morning

The 2022 Palouse Plein Air exhibition is open for public viewing starting at 5:00 p.m. on September 15 and will run until October 7 at the Third Street Gallery inside Moscow City Hall. The gallery is located at 206 E Third Street, and the public is invited to visit from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
