Scammers Pretend to be WSU Police to Collect Payment from Parents

Released by the Washington State University Police

PULLMAN – On Wednesday, Washington State University Police issued a statement regarding a reported scam involving fraudulent callers impersonating WSP Police Officers.

A scam we became aware of recently involves fraudulent callers pretending to be University Police Officers. These callers have been able to steal people’s money by asking for payments to get their children out of jail or avoid jail time. A WSU Police Officer will NEVER ask you for any form of payment over the phone or online. If you have any concerns that a call you receive may be fraudulent, feel free to call 509-335-8548 to confirm.
