Spokane Man Sentenced to 38 ½ years in Prison For Child Rape

Spokane, Wash – (Release from Spokane Police Department) On November 30, 2022 Jason Ayers was sentenced to 462 months in prison after being convicted on 13 counts of Rape of a Child – 1st and 2nd degree, involving three young girls. Ayers, age 49, was convicted in Spokane Superior Court in October. The case stems back to the early to mid 2000’s when the now adult women say Ayers repeatedly raped them over a number of years.

The women testified at trial that the rapes began when they were 5 years old, 9 years old and 10 years old. Ayers had access to the girls through his relationships with associated adult women at the time. The girls told other adults in their lives about the abuse but it wasn’t until 2017, when one of the then adult women reached out to Spokane Police, that an investigation began. SPD’s Special Victims Unit worked with the victims and developed the case. Rape charges were originally leveled against Ayers in 2018 but Covid-related and other delays allowed him to remain free until his conviction this October.

The victims have stated they brought forward the abuse and testified at the trial in the hope that Ayers would never hurt other girls. Spokane Police detectives thank the women for their bravery in speaking out and hold that the 38.5 year sentence serve as a message that acts of sexual violence against children will be investigated and perpetrators will be held accountable.
