Spokane Valley man Facing Potential DUI Charges After Taking Down Power Lines in Downtown Lewiston

June 26, 2024

(Lewiston, ID) On 6/26/24 at 0026 hours, officers were dispatched to an unknown injury vehicle collision in the area of 1800 block of Main Street. Several witnesses said a vehicle struck two power poles, the driver was still inside and live wires were hanging down onto the truck.

Upon the arrival, emergency responders instructed the driver to stay in the vehicle for his safety until Avista arrived to disconnect the power from the live wires. After Avista declared the scene safe, the driver, identified as 48 year old Andrew D. Flodin from the Spokane Valley, was safely removed from the vehicle. He was not injured.

Investigation determined Flodin was driving west on Main Street when he failed to negotiate the turn at 18th Street and Main Street. In addition to striking the two power poles, Flodin also struck a parked vehicle in the Valley Car Sales parking lot. Alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor and after further investigation, Flodin was arrested for Driving under the Influence and incarcerated at the Nez Perce County Jail. The power poles were owned by Century Link and the roadway was blocked for several hours. The property damage was estimated to be in excess of 30,000 dollars. The Lewiston Police Department wants to remind drivers not to drink and drive.
