Stevens Scores 1,000th Point, Warrior Women Secure Share of Conference Title in Regular-Season Finale

Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

LEWISTON – Saturday night was filled with emotions for No. 10 LC State Women’s Basketball. In the span of two hours, the Warrior women celebrated their seniors, saw the 1,000th point scored by Callie Stevens, and cut down nets as Cascade Conference regular-season co-champions.

The Warriors won the coin flip conducted by CCC commissioner Rob Cashell following the game and were awarded the conference’s automatic bid into the national tournament. Since LC earned the bid, the Warriors will be the No. 2 seed in the Cascade Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank. Corban earned the No. 7 seed and will travel to Lewiston for a 5:30 p.m. contest on Feb. 22.

Prior to the contest, LC State celebrated seniors Hannah Broyles, Adyson Clabby, and Sara Muehlhausen.

“This was another total team effort, but this one ended with a conference championship,” Head Coach Brian Orr said. “It was definitely a fun game to help celebrate our seniors final regular-season game. We have three outstanding seniors who have all played big roles in helping us win our last two championships. And we aren’t done. This team has set some high goals and it starts Wednesday when Corban comes to town.”

Callie Stevens scored the first eight LC State points as the Warriors opened the contest on an 11-2 run. Sara Muehlhausen sparked a rally of nine to grow the advantage to 21-5 by 1:20. LC led 21-7 after 10 minutes.

Stevens opened the second frame with the first five points before Sitara Byrd added another five for the 10-0 stretch. The run gave the Warriors a 31-7 lead at 7:08. Back-to-back 3s by Hannah Broyles and Stevens made it 39-12 with 1:27 to play in the half. Broyles added one more triple to send LC into halftime with a 42-15 cushion.

The Warriors kept their foot on the gas with buckets by Maddie Holm and Broyles in the first minute of the third quarter. A free throw by Stevens in the middle of a nine-point run gave the junior the 1,00th point of her career, and a triple by Broyles capped to span with LC ahead 58-19 by 4:18. Ella Nelson scored five straight points to send the Warriors into the final 10 minutes with a 65-23 lead.

A steal and 3-pointer by Nelson gave the freshman a career high to open the final frame, and fellow first-years Lindsey Wilson and Byrd added on to make it a 71-25 lead with 6:46 to play. Clabby drained a 3 to push the scoring run to six. The Warriors closed out the contest with a 79-35 final score.

Stevens led all scorers with 22 points to secure her place in the 1,000-point club. Broyles added 19 and Byrd scored 11. Muehlhausen led the defense with nine rebounds, Clabby dished out seven assists and both Broyles and Sander had four steals.

The Warriors shot .418 as a team and held WPU to .241. LC out rebounded the Knights 49-34.
