The city of Lewiston to Conduct Hydrant Flushing in Coming Weeks

LEWISTON – The City of Lewiston will be flushing hydrants throughout the Lewiston Water System from September 11th through 14th, 2022, and again from September 18th through 21st. City crews will work from 6:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.

This flushing could cause some discoloration of the drinking water. However, the water is safe to drink. To clear the water, a cold tap should be turned on and allowed to run until it clears. The hot water should also be checked for discoloration before running it into the washing machine.

Periods of low water pressure may be experienced during this flushing of the hydrants.

Public Works asks that people, especially drivers, be extra careful during this time and take into account the possibility of water on the roadways.

The purpose of the hydrant flushing is to clean the water mains, obtain hydrant flows and to check the mechanical condition of the fire hydrants.
