U of I Theatre to Present Virginia Woolf Classic ‘Orlando’ Beginning April 25

MOSCOW, Idaho — April 8, 2024 — The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts presents “Orlando” by Virginia Woolf and adapted by Sarah Ruhl for seven performances starting with opening night at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Forge Theater, 404 Sweet Ave. in Moscow.

Additional show dates and times include:

  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26
  • 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28
  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3
  • 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5

“Orlando” feels as relevant today as when it was published nearly 100 years ago in 1928 and tackles complex themes ranging from gender, romance, adventure and immortality.

Over a span of 500 years, we travel through time and watch how Orlando — a young, wealthy nobleman in Elizabethan England — experiences love and heartbreak and, after several centuries without aging, is eventually transformed into a woman.

“Orlando” is directed by U of I Master of Fine Arts student Blake Watson from Bozeman, Montana. Previous directing credits include “Constellations,” “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” “The Big Heartless” and most recently as assistant director for the U of I production of “Amelie.”

Tickets for U of I students are free and $5 to $25 for the general public. They are available online at uitickets.com or at the door an hour before each show begins. April 25 is preview night and all general admission tickets are $10.
