LEWISTON, Idaho – Bryden Brown and the Warrior Men’s Golf team hold a one-shot lead in the individual and team competitions after the first day of the Warrior Invitational at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club on Monday.

“It’s always nice being able to host and have some home course advantage,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Playing at a course that you’re comfortable with definitely helps.”

Brown, looking for his third consecutive individual title, opened the day with a 3-under, 69 with birdies on Nos. 5, 6, 8 and 18. The Moscow, Idaho, native improved by one stroke in the second round after recording four birdies and no bogies. Brown has a one-shot lead on Jake Johnson of Rocky Mountain (Mont.).

Alex Navarro shot nine birdies over his two rounds and is currently at 3-under, 141 in third place. Oscar Behle, playing as an individual, recorded an eagle on No. 2 in his second round and is in a tie for fourth place at 1-under, 143 for the tournament.

“Alex and Bryden really shined today,” Anderson said. “Bryden’s bogey-free 68 in round two is one of the most impressive rounds I’ve seen from him.”

LC State shot a 1-over, 289 in the second round, the best of any team, to surpass No. 8 British Columbia for the team lead. LC is the only team under par for the tournament at 1-under, 575. The Thunderbirds had the best round of the day with a 3-under, 285 in the opening round of the day.

“The first round we had it deep early, but the wind started to blow and just stumbled a bit coming in,” Anderson said. “The second round the wind really changed things. It was a battle the whole round. I’m proud of how all the guys fought from the first tee shot to the last putt.”

The Warriors hold a one stroke advantage on British Columbia going into the final round. Rocky Mountain is 14 strokes back in third.
