Warrior Tennis Opens Kentucky Trip Against Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, KY. – The Lewis-Clark State Tennis teams lost their first matches in a four-day Kentucky trip with a pair of 6-1 defeats to the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).

 

The (RV) LC Men’s Tennis was able to sweep doubles action against No. 17 Cumberlands but failed to earn a victory in singles.

 

Dan Felker and Maksim Matyrnyi teamed up in No. 1 doubles to earn the 6-3 win over Martin Muller and Robert Wu. Declan Townsend and Cade Edwards, along with Itaru Kikuchi and Daniel Tevez, earned 7-5 victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

 

Townsend pushed Muller to the limit in No. 2 singles before taking the loss 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Kikuchi battled back after losing the first set in No. 4 singles to sweep the second set before ultimately falling to Killian Surmont.

 

The Warrior women pushed No. 8 Cumberlands to three sets in three singles matches, winning one, and earned the victory in one of three doubles matches.

 

Heidi Moyo bounced back after losing the first set in No. 4 singles before pushing it to a super tiebreak to earn the victory over Catherine Rae 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

 

Moyo also took the win in doubles with partner Catherine Khardina in No. 2 doubles with a win over Tessa Gray and Johanna Beckman 6-2.

 

Lina Boylan earned a second set victory in No. 2 singles against Laura Prieto before losing 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Beatriz Lambru also won in the second set in No. 3 singles versus Nie Shiau before taking the loss 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
