Washington State Patrol Trooper’s Foot Run Over in Hit and Run Incident

KING COUNTY – A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper suffered a foot sprain during a traffic stop SB I-405 near 70th in Kirkland, Washington. At approximately 10:15 p.m. on May 23, 2024, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper was on a routine traffic stop when they sustained the injury.

The trooper was returning to their patrol vehicle when they checked traffic to ensure no vehicles were approaching in lane 1, the trooper observed a vehicle in lane 2 and continued their approach to the driver’s door to reenter the patrol vehicle. The vehicle in lane 2 abruptly changed lanes and headed directly for the trooper. Fortunately, they were able to spin in front of the patrol vehicle, however as the vehicle passed, it ran over the trooper’s foot and continued southbound on I-405. The trooper sustained a sprained foot, bruising, and pulled muscles.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a Toyota Rav4 but detectives are uncertain.

WSP detectives are seeking any witnesses who were in the area at the time this occurred.
