2023 WAA High School Awards Winners

LEWISTON – The Warrior Athletic Association held its 17th annual High School Awards ceremony on Wednesday night during the LC State Basketball doubleheader after nominees were featured on KLEW the week prior. The event recognized outstanding high school student-athletes, their coaches, teams, and community members.

Category winners included Kendrick’s Ty Koepp and Hailey Taylor, who won Athlete of the Year awards, and Troy’s Deborah Blazzard, who earned Coach of the Year. The Kendrick Football team claimed Team of the Year and Nezperce’s Patrick Barnett was awarded the Rick Hill Meritorious Award.

The WAA High School Awards are made possible by major sponsors P1FCU and Pepsi as well as award and event sponsors CCI/Speer, Inland Cellular, the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge, the Lewiston Tribune, and KLEW.

Finalists –

Male Athlete of the Year – Porter Whipple (Kamiah), Ty Koepp (Kendrick), Kase Wynott (Lapwai)
Winner – Ty Koepp (Kendrick)

Female Athlete of the Year – Kadence Beck (Highland), Hailey Taylor (Kendrick), Grace Beardin (Orofino)
Winner – Hailey Taylor (Kendrick)

 Team of the Year – Kendrick Football, Pullman Boy’s Swim, Troy Volleyball
Winner – Kendrick Football

Coach of the Year – Zane Hobart (Kendrick football), Jacob Hogg (Pullman Boy’s Swim), Deborah Blazzard (Troy Volleyball)
Winner – Deborah Blazzard (Troy Volleyball)

Rick Hill Meritorious Award – Ernest Durham (Genesee), Patrick Barnett (Nezperce), Kent Chambers and Steve Pettibone (Potlatch), Colleen Sonnen (Pr airie)
Winner – Patrick Barnett (Nezperce)
