Meridian Man Arrested After Christmas Eve Attack on Officer

MERIDIAN – On December 24, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a Meridian police officer responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Washakie Street, Meridian, Idaho. The officer arrived on scene and found a 62-year-old female who had a cut on her forehead and had been battered by a 31-year-old relative, Trevor Dyer. As the officer was talking with the female, he was attacked by Dyer.

The officer deployed his taser with zero effect and Dyer eventually ended up on top of the officer where he continued to punch the officer in the face. The officer was eventually able to get Dyer to get off of him and Dyer retreated to a bathroom as the back-up officer arrived. Both officers attempted to get Dyer to surrender, but Dyer chose to re-engage the officers and fight. One officer was able to apply a carotid neck restraint on DYER rendering him unconscious, thus allowing the officers to take him into custody.

Further investigation revealed Dyer had beaten a 58-year-old resident unconscious prior to officer’s arrival.

Dyer’s two original victims were treated for their injuries and released. The first responding officer was transported to St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, where he was treated for serious facial, tissue injuries. The 51-year-old officer, with 27 years on the force, is home resting and recovering with his family.

Dyer was booked into the Ada County Jail on three counts of felony Aggravated Battery and one count of misdemeanor Resist and Obstruct.
