Women’s Field Athletes Punch Tickets to Nationals

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Warrior Track and Field competed at Eastern Oregon on Saturday at the EOU Lew Thorne Invite. Local products Sydnie Zywina and Jennah Carpenter both set program records and hit automatic-qualifying marks in their field events, while Jedidiah Barnaby bested his record in the 60m dash.

THE WOMEN

Carpenter hit the third-best mark in the high jump this season in the NAIA with her height of 1.67m. The mark earned the sophomore first place at the meet and the top spot in the LC State record book. It is also an A standard for nationals.

Zywina also etched her name further into LC history with a massive 11.63m leap in the triple jump. The distance is more than half a meter further than her previous best (11.01m) and is an automatic-qualifying standard for nationals. She placed first at the meet. Alexa Horsley was fourth with her distance of 10.37m, which ranks fourth in the Warriors records.

Madigan Kelly won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.76. The time is an A standard, which Kelly hit earlier in the season. Carpenter and Ashley Britt each PRed in the event. Carpenter was third (9.24) and Britt was fourth (9.34). Their times rank in the LC’s top five all-time.

Kelly was also in action in the 60m dash. She matched her school record with a time of 7.90 in the prelim and placed third in the final (7.93). Britt competed in the 200m dash and was third (26.94).  Carpenter’s busy day continued in the 600m where she placed sixth (1:51.84).

Kea Stieglitz set a personal-best mark of 9.98m in the shot put to place 10th. Cassidy Henderson was 11th in the weight throw with a PR of 12.18m.

THE MEN

Barnaby bettered his school-record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.00 in both the prelims and final. He placed first overall in both sections. Jordan Castillo finished fourth in the prelims with the third-fastest time in Warrior history (7.19). Tanner Sibert was 13th (7.58).

The trio were also in action in the 200m dash. Castillo led the group in fourth (23.37), Barnaby was ninth (23.95) and Sibert placed 15th (24.36).

Christian Bothwell hit a personal-best mark of 4.30m to win the pole vault. Caleb Moore was fourth at 4.05m

The Warriors had three compete in the 60m hurdles, led by Moore’s fifth-place finish. He ran a time of 8.89 in the prelim and 9.16 in the final. Bothwell finished sixth in the prelim (9.26) and Ike Hopper was sixth in the final (9.20).

Throwers Moore, Bothwell and Jack Hardee all PRed in the shot put. Sam Weller led the group in sixth (12.93m), while Moore was 10th (11.50m), Bothwell was 12th (11.23m) and Hardee was 13th (10.81m).

Hardee also set a personal-best in the weight throw with a mark of 13.09m to finish eighth. Tanner Beltz-Childs finished 15th (10.65m) and Weller was 17th (9.92m).

Conner May won the 800m with a time of 2:00.27, and Brycen Brown was fourth in the 3,000m (8:59.81).

Justin Krabbenhoft led the Warriors in the men’s high jump with a fourth-place finish (1.86m). Ian Gardom was fifth (1.76m) and Moore was seventh (1.66m).
