LC State Track and Field Leads Both Multis After First Day of Bucs Scoring

Spokane, Wash. – (Release from LCSC Athletics) Justin Krabbenhoft and Sara Hathaway lead their respective combined events after the first day of the Bucs Scoring and Multis in Spokane. Both dominated the first set of events in the first multi of the outdoor season.

“A great first day for our multis,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Leading both the men’s and women’s competitions is a nice feeling for the hard work of these kids. Justin’s doing really well right now and excited to see how he does on the second day. Same for Sara. She had a very good first day as well. Christian (Bothwell) is only four points behind his personal best after day one and he’s a better second day guy anyway, even more so this year with a lot of the improvements. Excited to see how tomorrow goes.”

THE MEN
Krabbenhoft, a newcomer to the team this season, leads the decathlon after the first five events with Christian Bothwell not far behind. Krabbenhoft totaled 3,335 points after finishing first in the 100m dash (11.41) and 400m (51.17), second in the long jump with the fourth-best mark in program history (6.41m), third in the high jump (1.71m) and fourth in the shot put (10.64m). He was the top Warrior in four of five events. 

Bothwell sits in second with 3,175 points and was the second LC State finisher in all five events. Caleb Moore is seventh (2,793 points) and was the top Warrior in shot put (11.72m). 

Brycen Kempton shattered his personal-best in the 5,000m by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 15:14.57. He finished seventh in the event, Clay Shumaker was 10th (15:41.05) in his collegiate track debut, ad Luke Sellmann finished 14th (17:27.48). 

Jaycob Atencio led a group of five Warriors in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.22m. He finished seventh in the field with Jack Hardee in 10th (38.75m). Jon Wattles threw a personal-best distance of 38.22m to take 11th, Tanner Beltz-Childs was 13th (36.93m), and Sam Weller finished 16th (30.74m).  

The men’s 4x800m relay team of Cooper CarlsonCarter GordonConner May and Kobe Wessels ran a time of 7:53.34. They were they only team to compete in the event. 

THE WOMEN
Hathaway holds a 266-point lead in the heptathlon after the first four events. She totaled 2,636 points after topping the leaderboard in the 100m hurdles (15.15), high jump (1.56m) and 200m (26.75). She was second in the shot put (7.89m). 

Grace Dixon led a group of four Warrior women in the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 19:03.52. She placed 11th, Clara Stephens was 12th (20:02.37), Haileyann Johnson finished 13th (20:59.64) and Madison Howe was 14th (21:11.18). 

Desiree Winslow cleared a height of 2.86m in the pole vault for a career-best. She tied with teammate Emberlynn Mack for fourth. Cassidy Henderson finished 19th in the hammer throw with a mark of 33.39m. 

In the javelin, Kea Stieglitz finished fifth with a mark of 38.10m.
