VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Warriors picked up a win in the second half of Saturday’s doubleheader with UBC. After a 2-1 loss in extra innings, LC State Baseball earned a 3-1 victory with solid bullpen performances in both contests.
Warrior pitching allowed just two earned runs and struck out 17 through the two games. “Our pitching in the first three games has been exceptional,” Head Coach Jake Taylor said. “We have multiple guys competing for us on the mound while our bats have been quiet.”
LC State is now 19-6 overall and 4-3 in Cascade Conference play.
GAME ONE: UBC def. LC State 2-1 (11 INN.)
Jace Hanson struck out two in the first two innings before giving up a run in the bottom of the third. Hanson fanned two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to keep the margin at one.
Cameron Smith came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth and continued to hold back the UBC offense.
Down to their final out in the top of the ninth, the Warriors struck back with their first run of the series. Carter Booth and Nick Seamons notched a pair of two-out singles. An error on a ball hit by Pu’ukani De Sa plated the game-tying run.
UBC scratched across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th to take the first half of the doubleheader.
Hanson went 5.1 innings and struck out five and Smith had two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Trevin Hope threw the final 1.2 innings and gave up an unearned run.
Booth tallied two of LC State’s five hits.
GAME TWO: LC State def. UBC 3-1
The Warrior offense kicked things into gear in the first inning of game two. Booth led off the game with a double to left and a groundout moved him to second. De Sa knocked in the first run with a base hit through the right side, and Dominic Signorelli made it a 3-0 lead with a two-run home run.
Decker Stedman got the start on the mound and sat UBC down in order in the home half of the first. The left-hander threw six innings of shutout baseball before turning the ball over to the bullpen.
Zachary Ediger was the first LC State arm in relief and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning. Jantzen Lucas followed out of the pen to close out the final 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. He earned the first save of his career without allowing a hit.
Signorelli led the offense with two hits and two RBI.
