On March 28, 2023, at approximately 1:09 pm, Idaho State Police responded to a fatality crash on US95 near milepost 306, in Nez Perce County, Idaho. Close to the Clearwater Casino. A Ford Explorer occupied by a 56-year-old male from Weippe, Idaho and a 49-year-old female from Weippe, Idaho was traveling northbound on US95.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Explorer appears to have lost control, struck a guardrail and then a jersey barrier which caused it to rollover. The female was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. Evidence indicates that seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.
Traffic on US95 was blocked in the northbound lane for approximately 3 hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene. Next of kin has been notified. This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
Quickly after it was discovered that three dogs were in the Ford Explore, but they had managed to escape. Two of them were rescued by Idaho Animal Rescue Group and they were taken to Southway Animal Clinic who had reached out to help. The third dog was missing until this morning (Wednesday) until a IARN volunteer(Jessica) found it.
