Lewiston, ID–Head Coach Shaun Pohlman announced the fifth addition to the 2023 LC State Volleyball roster on Wednesday in Linn-Benton Community College product Taya Manibusan. The outside hitter will join the Warriors in the fall.
“One recruit we were looking for in our recruiting class was a competitor that is well above average and won’t have extreme peaks and valleys,” Pohlman said. “Someone that knows how to help their team win and achieve their goals. Taya is exactly that and the proof is in the accolades that surround her. Players from Linn-Benton have done very well in the Cascade and we are fortunate to have her join our program.”
Manibusan prepped at South Albany High School in Scio, Ore., where she was an all-league performer. The outside hitter played two seasons at Linn-Benton where she helped the Roadrunners to back-to-back NWAC Championships. She was voted the tournament MVP in both 2021 and 2022 and earned the NWAC Baden Player of the Year award in 2022.
“Taya is a steadfast leader and devoted teammate,” Linn-Benton coach Jayme Frazier said. “She is disciplined in her work ethic. She has incredible ball control and is a terminator at the pin. We are so excited to see Taya excel at Lewis-Clark State College.”
The incoming junior averaged 2.46 kills per set in 2022 with 285 total kills. She hit at a .230 attack percentage, dealt 60 service aces and collected 305 digs.
“My experience at Linn-Benton has taught me not only what it takes to be a successful player, but what it takes to have a successful team,” Manibusan said. “My girls at LB have helped me become a better player and teammate by staying competitive and keeping each other accountable. I have also learned the importance of doing the work outside the volleyball court and how what you do in your free time plays into how you play on the court. These past two years will help me here at LC because I have learned how to be gritty and how to be a good teammate.
“I want to thank my coach, Jayme, for getting me where I am today,” Manibusan added. “She has been someone who not only pushes me, but also is there for me outside of volleyball. She is always on top of things and helps you achieve your goals on the court and in the classroom. She is someone you can always count on and a great example to look up to.”
