NAMPA – Two more records fell for LC State at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational on Saturday, with Ike Hopper doing so in the 400m hurdles and Trenton Johnson breaking the mark in the triple jump.
“I think we learned a lot today and got a lot better,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “We had some winds, actually maybe the most winds in a long time at a single meet. Even though our marks or times weren’t necessarily the best, I think we are learning how to compete in tough conditions which is good because conference will likely be in tough conditions, but hopefully we will have an opportunity to continue to work on things.”
THE MEN
Johnson set the school record once again the triple jump, this time getting out to a distance of 13.69m.
London Kirk ran a provisional-standard time of 48.34 to win the 400m, and Hopper clocked the school record in the 400m hurdles with a provisional time of 53.86.
Jordan Castillo ran the 100m in 11.82 and Tanner Sibert ran the distance in 12.54. Kirk was third in the 200m (22.14) and Castillo was eighth (22.52).
In the pole vault, Caleb Moore hit a huge personal-best mark of 4.40m to tie for second with teammate Nikolous Bertling. Moore also recorded a career-best in the javelin throw to finish eighth (41.51m).
Brycen Brown ran the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 9:59.68. Griffen Parsells was the top finisher in the 1,500m (3:57.30) and Kobe Wessels was third (4:03.36). Clay Shumaker won the 5,000m with a time of 16:11.08 and Alexander Fry was third (17:03.75).
Sam Weller led the Warriors in the shot put with a mark of 13.68m to finish fourth. Jack Hardee was 13th with a PR of 11.43m. Atencio led LC in the hammer throw with a second-place finish (47.88m). Jon Wattles was eighth (41.87m), Hardee placed 15th (38.50m), Tanner Beltz-Childs was 16th (37.67m) and Weller had a PR (35.72m) to finish 20th. Wattles hit a career-best in the discus (39.91m) to place sixth, with Atencio in 17th (33.05m), Beltz-Childs in 21st (29.12m) and Moore in 23rd (28.27m).
Braden Wuthrich tied his outdoor PR in the high jump at 1.87m and Johnson jumped the fifth-farthest long jump in program history at 6.38m
THE WOMEN
Madigan Kelly ran a B standard time of 14.71 in the 100m hurdles to win the event.
The team of Ashley Britt, Emily Collins, Sara Hathaway and Kelly ran the fifth-fastest 4x100m relay in school history with a time of 48.76.
Freshman Emma Harless cleared a career-best height in the high jump (1.53m) to finish third.
Dalli Elison ran a personal-best time of 1:10.54 in the 400m hurdles, and Collins ran a PR in the 200m (26.07).
Collins went on to finish second in the 400m (58.82) and Geraldin Correa was third (59.65). Correa won the 800m (2:19.56) and Grace Tiegs was sixth (2:31.73).
Grace Dixon ran the first 3,000m steeplechase of her career in a time of 12:26.13. Grace Tiegs ran the 1,500m in 5:07.35.
In the 100m dash, Harless ran a time of 14.16 and Emberlynn Mack clocked a time of 14.56.
Kea Stieglitz continued to inch closer to a national standard with a season-best mark of 39.89m in the javelin. She placed fourth in the field.
Cassidy Henderson threw to a mark of 37.39m in the hammer throw and 28.08m in the discus.
In the pole vault, Cynthia Smith finished second (3.20m) and Mack was fourth (2.75m).
