Four Warrior Men’s and Four Warrior Women’s Basketball Players Named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Senior Sam Stockton, junior Quentin Raynor and sophomores John Lustig and Grayson Hunt each earned the first Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors of their careers.

To be named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better. Students must have attended their current institution for at least one year.

“This is great recognition for these players and is a testament to the type of student-athlete that attends LC State and the support they have academically from our staff, professors and the campus community,” Head Coach Austin Johnson said. “These guys have all managed their time well and maintained a high standard for themselves. We are grateful to see their efforts recognized.”

Seniors Callie Stevens and Maddie Holm each took home the honor for the third time in their careers, while second-year student-athletes Sitara Byrd and Camden Barger won the award in their first year of eligibility.

“I am so very proud of our four student-athletes who demonstrated the true meaning of student-athlete,” Head Coach Caelyn Orlandi said. “Callie and Maddie have been remarkable the past four years in the classroom and on the court and I am thrilled that their hard work is getting recognized. Maddie Holm is going to be a remarkable nurse and Callie is going to excel with whatever career path she chooses to take. Camden and Sitara both have been tremendous students from the moment they stepped on campus last year and I know they are going to continue to be tremendous the next two years as well.”

To be named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better. Students must have attended their current institution for at least one year. Orlandi was a two-time honoree during her career.

“Being a student-athlete demands excellent time-management skills, dedication on and off the court, and resiliency with all that they do,” Orlandi said. “I am a firm believer of good things coming to those who work for it and all four of these individuals have most definitely worked for it and deserve the title of Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete.”
