LC State Women’s Tennis Takes Down Whitworth on the Road

SPOKANE – The Lewis-Clark State Women’s Tennis team swept singles action and made it eight straight victories against NCAA Division III opponent Whitworth University with a 7-2 win on Saturday.

The win improved the Warrior record to 7-18 on the season and gave LC State its first true road win of the year.

Rayana Shah battled back after dropping the opening set in No. 1 singles to defeat Gracie Smyley 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva also rebounded from a first set loss to earn the victory against Jordan Turner in No. 4 singles 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Gwyn Heim had an easier time in No. 2 singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Paige Oliver. Paige Noble-Lucas needed just 41 minutes and dropped just one game in No. 3 singles. Naiara Montero (No. 5) and Bonolo Molefe (No. 6) completed the sweep of singles action.

In doubles, the lone team win came in No. 2 doubles as April Buckingham and Silva teamed up to defeat Olivia Corbett and Oliver 8-2.
