(Lewiston, ID) – The No. 20 Warrior Women’s Golf team sits in third place after the first round of the Bushnell Invitational at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Ore. LC State opened the season with a round of 327 to sit 10 strokes behind No. 21 Oregon Tech.

“An up and down day,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “The women were battling early on. The course was playing tough and we hung in there for a while with the other ranked teams in the field. Unfortunately, we lost our grip on contention down the stretch. We will regroup and get back out there tomorrow to see if we can put together a complete round.”

Sophomore Isabella Barquet holds a spot in the top 10 in a tie for ninth after the first round. She shot a round of 8-over, 80 after a strong back nine of 1-over. Barquet was challenged on the front nine with seven strokes over par.

Junior Dallis Shockey and sophomore Chase Caruso are tied for 14th after the first 18 holes with matching scores of 82. Both fared better on the front nine to sit 10-over on the round.

First-year players Giulia Belfontali and Jane Barry had their first taste of collegiate action on Monday and Belfontali finished her round one stroke back of Shockey and Caruso with an 83 to tie for 17th. Barry stumbled on the back nine, shooting 15-over, but found her footing on the front nine holes with just five strokes over par. She sits in a tie for 30th with a score of 92.

“Positives were that we battled all day, but it just didn’t go our way,” Anderson added. “Another 18 tomorrow to close out the first event of the year.”

No. 2 British Columbia leads the field with a score of 309 and Oregon Tech sits at 317 in second. OIT’s Quincy Beyrouty holds the individual lead by one stroke at 2-under, 70.
