Secretary of State McGrane and CISA Director Easterly to Hold Joint Press Conference on Election Security Efforts

September 16, 2024

(Boise, Idaho) – Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Jen Easterly will hold a joint press conference to discuss ongoing efforts to enhance election security in Idaho. The event will take place on September 18 at 10:00 AM in Room WW17 at the Idaho State Capitol.

The partnership between the Idaho Secretary of State’s office and CISA underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Idaho’s elections against evolving cyber threats. The press conference will highlight the critical importance of federal funding and resources in supporting election security, particularly in rural areas of Idaho that may lack the necessary cybersecurity infrastructure.

Secretary of State Phil McGrane expressed his commitment to ensuring the security and integrity of Idaho’s elections:

“As Idaho’s Secretary of State, I am dedicated to protecting our elections and ensuring that every vote counts. The support we receive from CISA is invaluable, especially for our rural communities that often lack funding and resources when it comes to cybersecurity. Federal support and expertise help us provide consistent and robust security measures that protect our elections and build trust in the process.”

“Secretary McGrane and his team are tremendous examples of the unwavering professionalism of state election officials and the quality of our nation’s front-line leaders in election security. I look forward to visiting Idaho to see their operations first hand,” said CISA Director Jen Easterly. “CISA is committed to doing our part to ensure state and local officials in Idaho and across the country have the support they need to run safe and secure elections.  Election officials have been working year round to be ready for the 2024 elections and it’s thanks to their efforts that voters can have confidence in the security of elections and the democratic process.”

The joint press conference will address the steps being taken to bolster election security ahead of the November 5th General Election and emphasize the importance of collaboration between CISA and Idaho state and local government.
