(Lewiston, ID) After helping No. 22 LC State Women’s Basketball to a pair of victories over the weekend, sophomore Darian Herring was voted the Cascade Conference Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
Herring was voted the MVP of LC State’s non-conference basketball tournament over the weekend after helping the Warriors to a massive 73-44 win over No. 9 Carroll and a victory over DIII Puget Sound. The sophomore led the Warriors with seven blocks (3.5 per game) in the two games and tallied two steals per game. She averaged 5.5 rebounds per contest. Herring currently ranks second in the NAIA in blocks per game (3.2).
Along with her defensive performance, the Deer Park, Wash., native averaged 13 points per game to lead the Warriors with 12 against Carroll and 14 against Puget Sound. She shot .600 from the field over the weekend and dished out 11 assists including a career-high seven against Carroll. The forward leads LC State in assists this season with 24.
This is the first weekly honor of Herring’s career and third overall for LC State Women’s Basketball this season. The Warrior women have earned three straight conference awards.
