Idaho Fish and Game Salmon & Steelhead permit update!

November 28, 2024

Set it and forget it: Reminder to set your license and permits to Auto-renew before Dec. 1!

On December 1st of each year, hunters and anglers may purchase licenses, permits, and (some) tags for the upcoming year.  This is also the date that anyone who has opted their license products in “auto renew” will have their upcoming year’s license, tags and permits renewed. Salmon and Steelhead permit holders will have the option to choose the new e-tagging permit in the app, or have a traditional printed permit.  Set your license products to auto renew before December 1 and be ready for a full year of outdoor adventures! Log into your license profile, and choose the “Auto Renew” tab to enroll.

Anglers: Paper permits for steelhead/salmon will only be available at F&G offices, vendors after Dec. 9

For anglers wanting to buy a paper salmon and steelhead permit for late 2024 or early 2025 using will need to do so in person at a Fish and Game Office or license vendor location after Dec. 9. To ensure anglers get their permits needed for December/January, online sales will be limited to e-tags, and after Dec. 9, paper permits for steelhead will only be available at Fish and Game offices and license vendors.

E-tagging for salmon/steelhead is now available. Here’s everything you need to know

Selecting an e-tag is optional when buying salmon and steelhead permits online and in-person, and paper tags are still available for those who prefer the traditional method of reporting their catch. Anglers with a current paper permit will not be eligible to switch to an e-tag for the 2024 season, but will be able to choose an e-tag in 2025.
