(Lewiston, ID) In a battle of the NAIA’s top Warrior teams, the No. 8 Webber International (Fla.) Warriors used a big fifth inning to defeat the No. 7 LC State Warriors 8-5. Charlie Updegrave was the highlight of the day for LC State with four hits and Dominic Signorelli had a solo shot for his first homer of the season.
The loss drops LC State to 2-4 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a 1-2-3 first inning on the mound for Jadon Williamson, Signorelli gave LC State an early edge with a solo shot in the top of the second. Williamson fanned two more in the second and the LC State Warriors added on in the third.
Ike George got the offense going in the frame with a hit by pitch and Noah Weintraub singled. A walk to Brandon Cabrera loaded the bases and two scored on a base hit by Updegrave. A single by Jakob Marquez made it back-to-back hits for LC State and a 4-0 lead.
Brennen Farber came out of the bullpen with two on and no outs in the bottom of the fourth and Webber capitalized with three runs. Levi Anderson was called to the mound and retired two in a row to end the threat with LC State in front 4-3.
Webber International put up another big inning in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead. The hosting Warriors totaled five runs on seven hits in the frame.
LC State manufactured a run in the sixth. Izzy Madariaga was hit by a pitch and Anthony Karagiannopoulos walked before a flyout by George moved Madariaga to third. A sacrifice fly by Weintraub plated a run to cut the deficit to 8-5, but that is as close as LC State would get.
