Boating Accident in the Clearwater River

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to an overturned kayak in the Clearwater River at approximately mile post 50 on US Highway 12. The single male occupant was found approximately 60 feet downstream of the kayak face down in the water. Road construction workers retrieved the man from the water and began CPR. Orofino Fire Department and Clearwater Valley Ambulance arrived and treated the man until he was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center via Lifeflight. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Orofino Fire, Clearwater Valley Ambulance, Lifeflight, Idaho State Police, Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, and the bystanders who rendered aid for their assistance. US Highway 12 is reopen and clear for travel at this time.
