NEW ORLEANS – Warrior Track and Field assistant coach Kurtis Bonner was named the USTFCCCA West Region Women’s Indoor Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year on Thursday. Bonner is in his second season as the full-time assistant coach for the LC State Track and Field program and competed for the Warriors.

Bonner heads up the coaching of jumping and combined events for the Warriors and has coached a pair of NAIA National Champion high jumpers in Tyler Blakely (2018) and Jennah Carpenter (2023). This season, under Bonner’s guidance, the Warriors have three individuals in jumping events qualified for indoor nationals between the men’s and women’s teams.

“A well-deserved honor for Kurtis,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “He’s done a great job and had really committed the time and the effort and true care necessary to be successful. I think his athletes have responded as such. Excited for him and excited for our program.”

The No. 14 Warrior women have athletes qualified for nationals in the high jump, triple jump and long jump. Jennah Carpenter, the defending national champion, ranks third in the NAIA in the high jump (1.73m), Sydnie Zywina is seventh in the triple jump (12.03m) and ninth in the long jump (5.65m), and Carpenter is 14th in the long jump (5.61m).
