LA GRANDE, Ore. – Christian Bothwell sits in ninth place in the Cascade Conference decathlon after the first five events. The senior will wrap up competition at the CCC Multi Event Championships on Friday.

Bothwell, who missed most of the outdoor season due to injury, was back in action on Thursday in five events. He placed sixth in the shot put (11.19m). Bothwell was eighth in both the 100m dash (12.14) and long jump (5.76m) and placed ninth in the high jump (1.54m). He did not score in the 400m.

“Injuries are tough, especially when you are used to training and competing at such a high level,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Christian has learned this over the past couple of months after incurring an injury in our last indoor meet. He decided to forego competing at indoor nationals in the hopes that he could come back and compete outdoors and hopefully repeat as an All-American, however, just not enough time to do it. He really gutted his way through the first day, but it became apparent from the get go that pushing his body that hard was not going to be good. He will work to finish up day two and if things go right, might have a shot at scoring a point or two for the team. Very proud of him. He has come a long way in his career here at LC.”

Bothwell is set to compete in the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m on Friday.
