(Idaho State) For the first time in recent memory, Idaho’s average price for regular gasoline is the exact same as the U.S. average – down to the tenth of a penny at $3.098 per gallon.
Idaho’s price is about six cents higher than a week ago, two cents more than a month ago, and 20 cents more than a year ago. The national average is about two cents less than a week ago, three cents more than a month ago, and five cents less than a year ago.
Today, the Gem State ranks 15th in the country for the most expensive fuel, up seven places from 22nd last week. Regional neighbors who are paying more include Washington ($3.96), Nevada ($3.68), Oregon ($3.56), and Arizona ($3.25). Drivers in Utah ($3.04), Montana ($2.99), Colorado ($2.97), and Wyoming ($2.97) are paying less than Idaho drivers to fill up today.
“Crude oil has dropped from $80 per barrel in mid-January to around $73 per barrel in just a matter of weeks,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “The combination of lower crude oil costs and modest fuel demand will hopefully create a calming effect at the pump.”
The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading about 50 cents per barrel cheaper than a week ago, $1 less than a month ago, and about the same as a year ago.
AAA urges drivers to conserve fuel wherever possible, including reducing idling times – most modern vehicles no longer need to run for an extended period of time for the engine to ‘warm up.’
