LEWISTON – The Lewis-Clark State Warriors battled hard and made it difficult for No. 4 Corban in a straight-set loss on Friday at the P1FCU Activity Center.
The LC Warriors held a lead in each set, but fell 25-20, 32-30, 25-18. The loss dropped LC State to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Corban improved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in CCC action.
“First set, I mean we were up pretty big, and Corban showed that they were able to execute at a really high level,” LC coach Katie Palmer said. “Our passing broke down a little bit, but I’m so proud of the way that we played in set two. I’m really proud of the way our team played tonight.”
Late in the first set, LC State took an 18-14 lead off an attack error from Kendra Bittle before the Corban Warriors won 11 of the next 13 points to take the first set.
The second set was even more intense. Corban racked off seven straight points to earn a 21-16 advantage. After LC State used its second time out, things started to click for the home team. Freshman Gianna Anderson recorded one of her team leading 11 kills and Abbey Neff scored one of her two aces to cut the lead to three.
After Corban made it 22-18, LC went on a 6-1 run to take a 24-23 lead. The two teams traded off several set points before Corban was able to outlast LC State for the set win, 32-30.
The No. 4 team in the country jumped out to an early 7-3 lead, but LC kept the lead to four points or fewer for most of the third set. A mini 4-1 streak cut the advantage to 15-14, but that is as close as the home Warriors were able to get.
Neff led LC with 14 assists and fifth-year senior Kenzie Dean tallied 17 digs in the contest.
Rylee Troutman was tough to stop for Corban, racking up 15 kills, while teammate Emma Bischoff had 11. Abby Guindy led the way with 28 assists.
The Lewis-Clark State Warriors will be back in action at 5 p.m. versus Bushnell on Saturday in the P1FCU Activity Center.
