Third Straight Win for Brown Leads Warrior Men to Second-Place Finish

4/16/2024 | Randy Isbelle | Sports Information Intern
LEWISTON, Idaho – Bryden Brown won the individual title in a playoff for the third consecutive tournament and the Lewis-Clark State Men’s Golf team finished in second at the Warrior Invitational at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

“Our last regular season event in the books,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Hosting can be a lot, but it’s also a great opportunity for the players to play a course they are comfortable with. I want to thank Lewiston Golf and Country Club, our athletic administration staff and all the volunteers that helped this tournament run so smoothly.”

Brown started his final round on fire with birdies on Nos. 2, 5 and 6. Four bogies in the next eight holes had the Moscow, Idaho, native in a tie for first place with Jake Johnson of Rocky Mountain (Mont.). The two were in the same group and played shot-for-shot over the final five holes, including a pair of birdies on No. 18 to conclude the three rounds in a tie at 7-under, 209 for the tournament.

“Man, it’s tough to put into words how these last three events have been for him,” Anderson said. “He’s proving he’s one of the best in the nation and I’m hoping he starts to get that recognition.”

In the playoff hole on No. 18, Brown sunk his putt for birdie to win his third individual title in as many tournaments, each one coming down to a playoff.

The Warriors were well represented on the leaderboard. Alex Navarro recorded six birdies including four of the final six holes to shoot a 2-under ,70 and finished in third place, two strokes behind the leaders.

Hunter Millsap shot a clean final round with four birdies and no bogies for a 4-under, 68 to finish in fourth place. Oscar Behle recorded four birdies and five bogies in his final round to finish in a tie for fifth place at even-par, 216. Both Millsap and Behle were playing as individuals in the tournament.

“The men fought, but came up short as a team,” Anderson said. “The men did not lose this tournament, they just got beat by a better team today. UBC had a great round today. We showed some fight coming in, but it was just a little too late. Proud of everyone and how they battled.”

As a team, LC State shot 7-over, 295 in the final round and finished 12 strokes behind winner No. 5 British Columbia. The Warriors had an 11-stroke gap to third-place finisher (RV) Rocky Mountain.

“We will regroup these next few days and hit the road for the conference championship in a couple of weeks,” Anderson said.
