Lewiston Police team with ISP and Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office to apprehend car thief

(Lewiston, ID) On November 14, 2024 around 1:30 pm, a Lewiston police officer located a vehicle which was recently reported stolen. The vehicle was driving in the area of 10th St. and Stewart Ave. The officer who located the vehicle attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspected stolen vehicle. The vehicle initially started to elude the officer, but then stopped near the top of Gun Club Rd. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Numerous officers attempted to find the suspect in the area, but were unable to locate him. Several hours later, Lewiston Police received a call from a citizen who advised they saw the suspect walking in the area of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories. Officers responded to the area and located the suspect. He fled on foot again and was chased by officers.

The suspect was apprehended by officers after they caught up to him. He was identified as 23 year old Johnathan Ryan. Johnathan was taken into custody and booked into jail for resisting and obstructing officers, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of the stolen vehicle.

The Lewiston Police Department would like to thank the Idaho State Police and the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case and remind everyone to lock their vehicles and not store keys in them.
