Moscow Police Department’s Search for Missing Inmate – UPDATE

August 13, 2024 (Moscow, Idaho) — At approximately 2:29 PM the City of Moscow Police Department was alerted by the Idaho Department of Corrections that a minimum security inmate may have walked away from a job site. 

The inmate has been identified as Wayland D. Savage, age 34. Savage is a white male, 6’3″ tall, weighing approximately 230 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes. Savage was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black University of Idaho t-shirt with the words “Silver & Gold Vibes Only” on it. Savage was incarcerated as a minimum security inmate for Burglary and Grand Theft with no known history of violence. 

Savage does not have any known ties to the Moscow area but he is known to have connections in the Boise as well as Montana. Savage was a member of an Idaho Department of Corrections work crew tasked with cleaning the Theophilus Tower Dormitory at the time he walked away. 

****UPDATE****

Savage was not located in the search of the Theophilus Tower and is believed to be at large. Members of the Moscow Police Department and the Idaho Department of Corrections will continue to attempt to locate Savage. The stay away order for the Theophilus Tower has been rescinded and the public is allowed back in the area.  

We would like thank the members of the Latah County Regional SWAT Team, the Whitman County Regional SWAT Team, the Idaho Department of Corrections CERT Team and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office K9 Team that assisted today in the search of the Theophilus Tower.
