No. 10 Warrior Women Cruise Past Multnomah to Open Weekend

LEWISTON – The No. 10 Warrior women rolled past Multnomah University in the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday by a final of 89-58. Hannah Broyles led the scoring efforts with 20 points and six of LC State’s 12 3-pointers.

With the victory, LC State is 25-2 on the season and 20-1 in Cascade Conference play. A win against Warner Pacific on Saturday would guarantee the Warriors at least a share of the regular-season conference title.

Ellie Sander put the Warriors on the board with an and-one play two minutes in. Maddie Holm and Broyles added baskets to give LC an 8-0 opening run. Callie Stevens hit a 3 and Sitara Byrd added a basket to make it a 13-2 advantage by 5:26.

A triple by Adyson Clabby sparked a 10-point rally, fueled by tallies from Byrd, Broyles and Sander, to give LC a 25-6 lead with 1:37 to play in the first quarter. Broyles drained one more 3 to push the margin to 28-8 after 10 minutes.

Multnomah cut the difference to 10 early in the second frame. A jumper by Payton Hymas was followed by a layup and two free throws by Lindsey Wilson and a layup by Stevens to push the cushion back to 38-20 midway through.

A 3 by Broyles made it a 20-point game, 45-25, at the 2:42 mark, and a bucket by Sara Muehlhausen had the Warriors ahead 47-30 at the break.

Sander opened the second half with a 3 on an assist from Holm, and Broyles tallied two more to make it 58-35 at 6:10. Baskets by Muehlhausen, Ella Nelson and Byrd capped the 10-point run with the Warriors in front 65-35 at 1:10. Another bucket by Nelson made it 67-41 heading into the final quarter.

Wilson, Hymas, Holm and Stevens combined for a nine-point stretch at the halfway point of the fourth quarter to push the advantage to 81-49 by 4:42. Sander, Nelson and Byrd each found the basket one more time to close out the 89-58 victory.

Broyles led the Warrior women with 20 points on six 3-pointers. Sander added 15 and Stevens scored 10. Byrd led the defense with 11 rebounds, Stevens dished out six assists and four different Warriors had two steals.

LC State shot .424 from the field and held Multnomah to .317 The Warriors outrebounded the Lions 50-39 and forced 19 turnovers.

Multnomah’s Alaygza Portis led all scorers with 21 points and Shaila Mays added 13.

UP NEXT

The Warriors close out the regular season on Saturday against Warner Pacific. Tipoff is scheduled to 4 p.m. with Senior Night taking place at approximately 3:30 p.m.
