No. 9 LC State Baseball Wins 12th Straight with Sweep of UBC

4/21/2024 | Alisha Alexander | Assistant Athletic Director-Sports Information
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Ninth-ranked LC State Baseball completed its first four-game sweep of UBC in Vancouver since 2012 with a 7-2 victory on Sunday. The Warriors have swept their last three series for a 12-game winning streak heading into the final series of the regular season.

The win improved the LC State record to 31-9 overall and 17-3 in Cascade Conference play. LC State needs three wins next weekend to clinch the top seed in the CCC tournament outright.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Warriors struck first with a run in the top of the first. Brandon Cabrera and Pu’ukani De Sa notched back-to-back two-out singles and Jack Sheward made it a 1-0 game with a double to right center.

Hiroyuki Yamada worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the second, but UBC rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth.

LC State bounced back with a four-run fifth frame. Carter Booth doubled to left center and an error put Nick Seamons on before he stole second. A walk to Dominic Signorelli loaded the bases and Jake Gish walked to tie the game. Charlie Updegrave produced a productive RBI groundout and Cabrera made it a 5-2 lead with a base hit to plate two.

Jantzen Lucas came out of the bullpen in the home half of the fifth and gave up three straight singles to load the bases before striking out the side to erase the threat.

The Warriors added a run in the sixth after a leadoff base hit by Sheward. Ike George took over on the bases and stole second before scoring on a single off the bat of Seamons.

Gish doubled in the seventh and came in to score on a single to center by Updegrave to push the lead to 7-2 and Lucas fanned two in the bottom of the inning. Jake Green worked a scoreless eighth on the mound before Landon Webb closed out the contest in the ninth.

Lucas earned the win after striking out six in three innings. The Warrior bullpen did not allow a run or walk a batter.

Cabrera led the offense with three hits and Booth, Gish and Sheward each tallied two. Updegrave and Cabrera each drove in two runs.

UP NEXT

The Warriors wrap up the regular season with a four-game Cascade Conference series at home against Bushnell April 27-28.
